If you’re a parent of young kids like I am, you’ll be able to relate to the feeling of wanting to get out of the house for a few hours. Be kid-free, save your sanity, feel human again and do the things you used to enjoy before kids happened (no offense kids, mummy loves you but she needs a moment to breathe). I’m raising my baby alone, so I don’t get much time to myself. It’s next to none. I have to pick and choose the few things I actually can do, providing I have a babysitter (which is usually my mum). So, here are five things that I’m hoping to do this year, completely kid-free!
Sum 41 gig
Sum41 is one of those bands that most people my age knew and they either forgot about them or grew with them. I grew with them. I love them and I love seeing them every time they come to Florida. They are doing a 15 year anniversary tour for their album ‘Does This Look Infected?’. I went to their 10 year anniversary tour and it was a riot. Their shows are super high energy, and so much fun. This will be my first gig in a year! I haven’t wanted to leave the baby for that long, but I definitely have to go to this show.
Vans Warped Tour
Additional to the Sum 41 gig, I want to go to Vans Warped Tour for the first time ever and also the last because sadly they are ending it this year. I’ve been dying to see Motionless In White, who is one of my favourite bands, and are playing Warped Tour this year (as well as Sum 41, so I’ll see them twice, WOOO!) – I’ve always wanted to go to Warped Tour but I don’t think I’ve ever been. Have I? No, I don’t think I have. I would regret it very much if I didn’t take this final chance to attend that festival.
Visit New York
This isn’t something I’ve planned out yet but it’s something I really want to do, even if it’s just for one day. New York has my heart. I’m in love with the place. If New York were a person, I’d marry it haha. Every time I see it on TV, my heart stops for second. I need to go back, and I need to go back soon. I need to see the bright lights in Time Square at night. I need to see that beautiful skyline as I approach Manhattan. Oh NYC, I love you. You’re bloody expensive though.
Ride my horse
Well why don’t you just go ride? Can’t. I haven’t been able to since November of last year. My horse had two injuries and two abscesses in the same foot and it’s taken a while for her to heal. She now has shoes and pads on so hopefully in a few weeks, I’ll be able to ride her again. I’m moving her to a new barn soon, which is in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by woodlands and green fields, so I’m really looking forward to being able to ride out on her.
Relax by the pool
I would LOVE to go for a run, then go relax by the pool. Where I live, we have a pool with a hot tub, which I haven’t been in since the day before Abbey was born. Even then, I wasn’t allowed in the hot tub, because it’s dangerous for the baby, so I just put my legs in. Funny story – That day, I hadn’t put enough sunscreen on and the front of my legs were quite badly burned. I had a towel over my belly but my legs were on show. The next day, I went into labour with Abbey and whenever a nurse or doctor came into the hospital room to check on me, they would comment on and giggle at my sunburn. I was so embarrassed because I looked like a lobster (or a typical British person in Florida).
Sunbathing by the pool and then having a swim, sounds so perfect right now. I would definitely feel refreshed!
So there we go, those are the 5 things that I would love to do for myself. Thank you for reading 🙂
